Outdoor Living Skill Classes

Range Archery: Students learn Olympic target style archery, which includes safety equipment, and line procedures. All students are given a chance to hit a bulls-eye. Grade Level 4-8, Fall/Winter/Spring

Introduction to Climbing: Students learn the fundamentals of rock climbing including safety equipment (harness, helmet, belay device) and climbing commands. Students will also have a chance to climb our indoor climbing wall. Students will also practice their knot tying abilities. Grade Level: 4-8, Fall/Winter/Spring

Introduction to Compass: Students learn the basics of the compass and pacing, and then test their knowledge and skills on the compass course. Grade level: 4-8, Fall/Winter/Spring

Fire Building: Keyhole, teepee, log cabin...”which style of fire should I use?” Students will learn about fire safety, primitive and modern methods of fire starting, and fire building. They will have a chance to use a fire bow or fire plow and other techniques to start a fire. Grade level: 4-8, Fall/Winter/Spring

Map Making: Students will learn how to survey and read a topographical map. Students will then survey the unique land features of this area and create their own unique map. Grade level: 4-8, Fall/Winter/Spring

Shelter: Students will discuss different types of shelters and their uses. They will construct a shelter as a group and explain the functions and benefits of shelter in a survival situations. Grade level: 4-8, Fall/Winter/Spring

Survival: Students will learn the four laws of survival, make an action plan for survival situations, and assemble their own survival kit. Grade level: 4-8, Fall/Winter/Spring
